Hi! I'm Alex (:
In 1852, my great-great-great grandfather, Peter Geyerman, arrived in the US from Germany and opened a general store on the banks of the Minnesota River. At that time, men carried goods to the store like pots and pans, dishes, and towels in covered wagons with rickety wheels over miles of rugged dirt roads. Geyerman's expanded to serve Minnesota, North and South Dakota, and Nebraska for decades, and while a lot has changed in the last 172 years, our mission remains the same:
Treat our customers like our neighbors because, in most cases, they are.
My name is Alex, and I've always been told that retail is in my blood. As a small child, I spent hours sorting hangers at the Mitchell, SD store and attending buying trips with my parents. As I got older, my duties expanded to counting sold tags, balancing receipts, and eventually assisting customers on the floor. I'll never forget the giant poster I passed each day hanging in the stairwell leading to the employee break room. It showed a fierce and noble lion against a white background with bold text that read "In our business the customer is king!" I'm now in my mid-30's and after spending the last decade buzzing around the corporate world, I'm ready to return to my roots as the new owner of Madame Peacock's, which was born out of these same values by my mom, Julie, and her husband, Tom, in 2012.
Since then, Madame Peacock's has taken on a life of its own, serving as not just a retail store, but a space where customers become friends and employees are family. This is all a testament to the values and hard work put in by my mom and Tom, as well as the amazing staff they've brought on, and I'm so grateful for the chance to be involved. I just hope I don't screw it up. Let's keep adding to the bank of countless memories that have been made inside those walls and continue serving our team, our customers, and the great community of Deadwood. See ya at the Schlitz bar!
